On Friday, 20th July 2018, Fr Jean-Noel from Canningvale Parish visited TOM’s prayer meeting in Willetton Parish Church.
Many people wonder about Adoration and perhaps you too have questions about Adoration. What is it and why do we do it? Some of us may also get lost during an hour of silence, unsure what to do.
Fr Jean-Noel has touched on this topic last week and gave us an understanding of what is the meaning of Adoring our Lord.
What is Adoration?
The Catechism of the Catholic Church describes Adoration in a very beautiful way: “It exalts the greatness of the Lord who made us and the almighty power of the Savior who sets us free from evil. Adoration is homage of the spirit to the “King of Glory,” respectful silence in the presence of the ‘ever greater’ God,” (CCC 2628, 99-101). To put it simply, Adoration is really for us to spend time with Him alone to foster friendship and an intimacy.
During Adoration, as we gaze to Him, He also gazes upon us. He sees our fragment and differences, and thus unites us through the Sacrament.
God knows there are divisions in certain aspects of our life (culture, race, opinion, personal interests, wounds, etc.) and none of that brought unity among us. In fact we, too, are torn inside as we face problems with the choices that we have to make every day.
The Sacraments are there to bring us closer to God and to guide us all in the discernment process. The body of Christ is a way for Him to bring us into one – both in ourselves and community. Assuring that none of us will be left alone in the dark; in fact, the Holy Spirit will be present to guide us towards the light.
And how else do we bring ourselves closer to God if we don’t know what His plans for us or if we don’t actually listen to what He want us to do?
The beauty of Adoration lies in the moment of silence, where our hearts and mind truly align with the presence of our Lord. Perhaps, it is the time for you to really offer up all of your prayers to God and listen what is it that He wants you to do.
If you need some inspiration what to do during Adoration, here are some suggestions:
- Pray a Rosary or the Chaplet of Divine Mercy
- Meditate using scriptures
- Read the life of saints and pray with Him or Her
- Pray for your families and love ones
- Sit quietly and just “be” in the presence of god
God Bless.
