My husband’s biggest hobby is fishing and summer is his favorite season to fish. When he goes out to fish, he likes to do it in the early morning. He would leave home at 5AM and come back around 10AM. So when one morning my husband went out to fish and he wasn’t home by 10.30AM, I found it a bit unusual.
I quickly checked his whereabout through “Find My” app and strangely his location hadn’t been updated since 6.17AM. And even more unusual, his location was detected as in the middle of the ocean. I find it strange because my husband fished from the shore, not deep sea fishing.
Saya tidak mau berprasangka buruk apapun. Pikir saya saat itu oh mungkin sinyalnya kurang bagus di pantai jadi lokasi di handphone tidak terupdate sejak pagi. Benar saja karena tidak lama kemudian suami saya pulang. Biasanya sehabis fishing dia akan bercerita dengan semangat ikan apa saja yang didapat dll. Namun hari itu dia pulang dengan raut wajah yang lesu. Yang dia ucapkan berikutnya sungguh di luar dugaan.
Suami saya berkata “Handphone aku jatuh di air dan hilang terbawa arus. Kamu jangan marah ya.” Mendengar pengakuannya, reaksi pertama saya adalah tertawa, yang jelas membuat suami saya heran. Kamu kok gak marahin aku katanya? Lalu saya tunjukkan lokasi dia di Find My app yang ada di tengah laut dan tidak bergerak sejak pagi. Saya tidak marah karena lebih baik handphone yang hilang daripada suami yang kenapa-kenapa di tengah laut!
Siang itu juga kami pergi ke Apple store untuk suami membeli handphone baru. Handphone dia yang hilang masih dalam kontrak jadi sebelum masuk dalam kontrak baru, kami harus membayar sisa kontrak lama. Thankfully kontrak lama hanya tinggal beberapa bulan jadi uang yang harus dikeluarkan tidak terlalu memberatkan. But still it was an unexpected expense.
My husband is the ‘accountant’ in our family, he budgets our finances carefully. So unexpected event and unexpected expense like this caught him off guard. He doesn’t like it. But I reminded him that we all experience the unexpected in life because there are things that beyond our control. We just need to trust God when the unexpected happens.
What is unexpected to us is not unexpected to God. Nothing is hidden from God’s sight, He sees it all (Hebrews 4:13). And not only God is aware, He cares for us immensely. Dalam case kita, beberapa minggu sebelum kejadian handphone hilang ini, suami mendapat bonus di kantor yang jumlahnya lebih dari yang dia prediksi. Kita bersyukur banget saat itu dan sekarang jadi mengerti ini toh alasannya kenapa Tuhan kasih berkat lebih, karena kita akan ada pengeluaran tidak terduga! Thank you Lord!
The one constant in this sea of unexpected things in life is the Lord. He is good. His love does endure! 1 Chronicles 16:34 “Oh give thanks to the Lord for He is good, for His steadfast love endures forever.”
